ARE YOU A FASHION DO OR A FASHION DON’T...

ARE YOU A FASHION DO OR A FASHION DON’T?   Well, brace yourselves, Charmies & Boo Kittens!!!   Vintage & Charmed is coming for you, and we’re taking pictures of all Fashion “Do’s and Don’ts” walking on the streets of DC!  So, “don’t get mad ‘Twan!!!”  Own your look, because we’re coming for you!  My new assistant and I will be looking for Fashion Do’s and Don’ts in the DC area to put on our blog.  Don’t worry, we’ll ask permission to use your picture!  Our goal is not to embarrass you, but to show you how to rock what you’ve got and how you can update or freshen your look by adding a little vintage flair!  So get ready for your photo op and don’t forget to say “CHEESE!”

Now, one of my most hated “Fashion Don’ts” is the way y’all wear leggings!  Yeah I said it, y’all!!!  Take a look at these leggings Fashion Don’ts…
FASHION DON’TS

Now ladies, can I be honest with my feelings about leggings?  I love them as much as the next woman, but you know that most of you are wearing them as wrong as Aretha Franklin in a thong!!!  I know we love our leggings because they’re so comfortable, and we can just throw them on and go, but sweat pants does the same job and you look better in them!  We can even throw on a pair of heels or wedges with a pair of track pants and be trendy and cute at the same time!  Don’t get me wrong, there is a RIGHT way to wear leggings and I’m going to show you how!
FASHION DO’S

Now here are several ways you can wear leggings and look very classy and trendy!  Even Martha Stuart got it right!  You can’t let Martha Stuart out do you, now can you???  So unless you’re a stripper, a teenager, a dancer, going jogging, to the gym, Pilates, Zumba or Da Go-Go Class, you shouldn’t be wearing leggings without the appropriate over the derriere top, jacket, sweater, t-shirt, sweat shirt, blouse, shrug, or coat, PERIOD!  No one wants to see your “Camel Toe!”  Only celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, and Nikki Minaj get a pass to wear leggings on the street with a crop top and heels, and they’re doing it for Press and Paparazzi.   If you’re looking for attention, then be classy and show your curves with a sexy little body con dress!  Let’s be “CLASSY”, not “ASSY!!!”  Come on, you can’t expect me to be warm and fuzzy in every blog post!  It’s ok though, ‘cause I got you, Boo!

Vintage & Charmed is going to take your fashion to a whole new level!!!  So “LOOK OUT”, because we’re coming for you!!!

Stay tuned for the DC Street Fashion Do’s and Don’ts in my next blog post!

Smooches, Peace & Blessings!!!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE FASHION ERA?

No, not “error” but “era!”  I’m an “Old School” girl, myself!  I absolutely love the tailored suits of the 40s and 50s; the Mod Style of the 60s; the psychedelic “Everything Goes” look of the 70s; the lace fabrics and padded shoulders of the 80s; and the boyfriend jeans and jackets of the 90s!  Ok, stop laughing! I like shoulder pads!  However, if you ask me to choose; although I’d be torn, I would have to choose the 70s!

The 70s was full of bell bottom pants, butterfly collared funky printed shirts, comfortable platform shoes that men and women wore, and patchwork leathers and furs that you could throw on all together and no one would dare look at you crazy!  The fabric to have and wear was Polyester!  It was cool in the summer and warm in the winter, and the bonus was you could throw it in the washing machine!  You couldn’t go wrong in the 70s!  Every color and pattern went together!  It was a very colorful era!

So what’s your favorite era?

1960s

1970s

1980s

While bows at the neck (Neck Tie Blouses) had been worn since at least the nineteenth century, the term "pussy bow" or "pussy cat bow" took hold in the 20th century. The Pussy Bow Blouse was all the rage on the runway during New York Fashion Week!  Vintage & Charmed has plenty, so you’d better get here soon before they’re all gone!!!

Christian Dior introduced the classic modern pencil skirt in his 1954 Autumn Winter collection. The pencil skirt quickly became very popular, particularly for office wear.  The 1950s took this trend by storm when they paired the pencil skirt with a classic pump or high heels with sheer stockings or back-seamed hosiery!  Ooh-la-la!!!  Nothing’s sexier than a fitted pencil skirt in high heel stilettos!  This classic outfit can be worn to work, dinner, a night out on the town, a wedding, to church or just about anywhere!

1990s

THE BONUS

Fashion repeats itself!  There are very little new styles, but just a remix of past styles given a new name!

Hit me up on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter and let me know your favorite era!  I bet we have the inventory at Vintage & Charmed to accommodate your favorite!  So come to The Anacostia Arts Center at 1231 Good Hope Road, SE, Gallery D, and let Vintage & Charmed Style your life!!!   Mic drop…enough said!!!
